Our Story
Meffert’s is a brand with deep roots in the world of twisty puzzles, founded by Uwe Meffert, a true pioneer in the industry. Our story began in the early 1970s when Uwe, while researching energy flows in the human body, accidentally stumbled into the world of puzzles. He created geometric shapes from balsa wood and, driven by curiosity, sliced them into pieces and connected them with rubber bands. These early experiments laid the groundwork for what would become some of the most iconic puzzles in history.
The one that started it all
In 1981, after the global success of Erno Rubik’s Cube, Uwe introduced the Pyraminx to Tomy Toys in Japan. The puzzle was an immediate hit, with over 10 million units sold by Christmas of that year. This marked the beginning of Meffert’s as a key player in the puzzle industry. Over the years, Uwe Meffert and his collaborators developed over 100 unique 3D rotational puzzles, with many becoming beloved classics enjoyed by millions around the world.
Family owned
Meffert’s is wholly owned, managed, and operated by the Meffert family. Founded in 1980 by Uwe Meffert, our company began with the invention of the Pyraminx, the puzzle that started it all. Today, the company is managed by Uwe’s son, Ulrich Meffert, who continues the family’s legacy of innovation and passion for puzzles.
